Go there for the weekend buffet , skip the ala carte- The weekend buffet is like an Indian feast . They serve you hot crispy dosas, wadas, hot Bhajias , chatpati chaat , which includes- dahi Wada , papdi chaat , mini samosa chaat, cutlets etc. The main course is great too - they have a variety of chicken , mutton and paneer dishes , hot fresh breads and steaming rice. Last but not the least, the desserts- Kheer , phirni and ras malai are also decent. The trick though is to go early, eat slowly and enjoy every course. Would not recommend going towards the end , as most of yummy tasting dishes are over by then.

The weekday buffet on the other hand is a little less elaborate but still decent.

Decent Indian restaurant serving North Indian food with great ambience

    Full Review:
Amiya is one of the few Indian restaurants in the Exchange Place area. They have a fairly large North Indian focused vegetarian/vegan friendly menu with great ambience and decent service. The portion sizes were good and the pricing was reasonable. The restaurant ain't too big and can involve waits if you go with a large group especially during the peak times, would recommend reserving a table before you arrive.

I had recently visited them with a group of friends. The menu had good choice of vegetarian/vegan friendly dishes for each course. We tried a bunch of starters ...   Subzi Ki Seekh was great, had good flavor and taste. Paneer Shashlik and Methi ki Paneer Tikka were OKish. For the mains we tried Kadai Paneer and Malai Kofta. Both dishes were decent and didn't stand out in flavor or taste. The Naans and Rotis we ordered with the mains were pretty fresh and tasted great. Overall found the food pretty decent and ordinary. I wish the dishes could have been made more flavourful.

The place also seems to be pretty popular for their lunch buffet during weekdays among the office goers in the area. A few of my friends recommended this place for the buffet if in the area.

    Recommendations:
    Starter: Subzi Ki Seekh
    Mains: Malai Kofta

This is a great spot for Indian food between Newport and Exchange Place. There's a fair amount of seating in Amiya. I've been here a few times for their buffet. It's a great value for money and variety option. Make sure you try everything! It's not one of those Indian spots where the curry remains the same while the veggies/meat changes. Everything here has a different taste!
Start off with the "Chaat" counter where they often serve the Papdi chaat, samosa chaat, etc. Then move on to the North Indian mains - their Dal Makhani and Chana were splendid. While you take a seat back at the table, you'll see a couple folks preparing hot dosas and uttapams right in front of you. Make sure you get one of these before you finally settle down only to get up again in a few minutes for more helpings. They serve fresh bread and rice on the table.
Make sure you have the Shahi Tukda (melt in your mouth) here. It's amazing!
I know I'll be back here now and again and again for their super value all you can eat buffet!

Have always enjoyed meals at Amiya. Flavors are strong, food quality good and service consistently excellent.
Wish they partnered with Opentable or other online reservation service.

Do not miss the elaborate Indian buffet on weekends at this lovely Indian restaurant in Jersey City! The menu is quite elaborate for the price and the live stations make the experience worth remembering.
We opted for the buffet on a Saturday morning which had a variety of options! I only tried the vegetarian options but the buffet served many non vegetarian dishes too

South Indian counter - always fills you up! A choice of dosas and uttapams made in front of you with assorted chutneys and fresh sambhaar!

    Entree:

    1. samosa chaat
    2. Aloo aur papdi chaat (must try)
    3. Subzi ki seekh

    Main course:

    1. Bharta baingan kaa
    2. Amiya paneer
    3. Chana Pindi se
    4. Dal Tadka
    5. Dal Makhani ( must try)
    6. Dilkush malai kofta

You will be served fresh bread and rice on your table! No need to take the cold bread from the counter.

    Dessert:

    1. Kheer
    2. Gulab jamun
    3. Mango kulfi/pistachio kulfi
